Proclamation - Educational Opportunities for Hispanic Students Day

WHEREAS, Idaho has recognized this as the Generation of the Child; and

WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the Hispanic community, which is the fastest growing minority population in the country; and

WHEREAS, the State of Idaho with more than 100,000 Idahoans of Hispanic descent whose presence give this state a culture uniquely rich in diversity of its people, their traditions, history, and contributions to the State of Idaho; and

WHEREAS, schools should be encouraged to share strategies of success and to engage in activities to promote greater student achievement among all races of children to eliminate the achievement gap; and

WHEREAS, locally elected school board members strive to provide high quality education for all the children in their districts; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DIRK KEMPTHORNE, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim April 23, 2005 to be

EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR HISPANIC STUDENTS DAY

in Idaho, the Idaho School Board Association in cooperation with the school board associations of Nevada, Oregon, and Washington is hosting the 2005 Northwest Conference Celebrating Educational Opportunities for Hispanic Students.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused to be affixed the Great Seal of the State of Idaho at the Capitol in Boise on this fifth day of April in the year of our Lord two-thousand and five and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred twenty-ninth and of the Statehood of Idaho the one hundred fifteenth.
